Professor Tariq Iqbal is a leading clinician-scientist specializing in microbiome research and gastroenterology at the University of Birmingham. He serves as Director of the Microbiome Treatment Centre and NIHR National Specialty Lead for Gastroenterology. Tariq led the UK’s first fecal microbiota transplantation trial for ulcerative colitis and continues to pioneer clinical studies exploring microbiome-based interventions for inflammatory bowel disease. His work bridges clinical practice and translational research, aiming to improve patient outcomes through innovative microbiome therapies.
